Linking up with Kelly.
I went to see Les Misérables on Broadway two weeks ago (before it closes soon); it’s one of my favorite musicals. I first saw it in London in 2009, and then I saw it here in New York last year. It was just as impressive as always! I wrote a piece about it this week at Ignitum Today.
The heat wave has finally cooled off, but we had a stretch of brutally hot weather here that lasted for weeks. I sought out refuge in various air-conditioned coffee shops, bookstores, the New York Public Library (which currently features an exhibit on Alexander Hamilton!), and the community pool.
I’ve also continued babysitting for the Sisters of Life—the babies are so much fun :)
I got to meet Liesl in person when she visited the city a few weekends ago! We went to Mass together at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and had brunch. She was just as lovely in real life as she is online!
I am currently reading Harry Potter and the Cursed Child—it’s kind of a treat to get an extra, unexpected Harry Potter book after so many years, though this one is very different from the others in format and tone. I always take off the jacket while I’m reading hardcover books, and I noticed that the case underneath is Hufflepuff colors, yellow and black. I recently learned that, according to the Pottermore sorting hat, I am a Hufflepuff, but that doesn’t seem right to me. I always thought of myself as either a Gryffindor or a Ravenclaw, so I’m not sure how much stock I put into the Pottermore quiz. I don’t have anything against Hufflepuffs—I think they’re great!—but I’ve just never identified as one. Am I misunderstanding my true nature, or is Pottermore just wrong? Anyway, at least I’m not in Slytherin.
I’m excited for the Gilmore Girls Netflix release on Thanksgiving weekend! I’ve been watching some Gilmore Girls lately; I’m partial to seasons 3 and 4. I’ve seen it all already, but it’s a very rewatchable show.
This week Scythian played a concert here in New York. I know a bunch of people who are big Scythian fans, but I’d never heard their music—they were awesome! The concert was a lot of fun, and I really like their Irish/Celtic sound.
The Olympics start tonight! I love watching the Olympics, and I’m excited to see gymnastics, swimming, and various other sports I only watch every four years. I’ve also been to Rio before, so it’ll be kind of cool to recognize the places I see on TV (and hopefully it won’t be too much of an administrative and public-health disaster!).
