A Few of My Favorite Things, #28: Watching the Olympics

While I have not the slightest bit of athletic skill, I love watching Olympic athletes perform at a high level. It’s exciting to root them on, and often it inspires me to persevere and perform well at my own pursuits. It’s amazing to see what people are capable of with hard work, passion, and dedication.

I vividly remember watching Sarah Hughes skate at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics:

And the men’s swimming relay from the 2008 Beijing Olympics:

And probably the most inspiring Olympic moment of all time was Kerri Strug in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics:

It’s also fun to watch the Olympics and become absorbed in sports I would never know or care about otherwise…because who knew synchronized diving could be so impressive? The rules and techniques of each sport are very different, but the same determined spirit is expressed in each one, and that’s what makes it so compelling to watch.
